After graduating from Edinburgh University with a MA (Hons.) degree, Ed began his career working alongside leading bloodstock agent John Warren, under whose tutelage he began to develop his eye for thoroughbreds. Ed subsequently worked at Coolmore Australia, Side Hill Stud and Highclere Stud before spending six months as assistant to Group 1 winning trainer Hughie Morrison. Ed was also accepted to the inaugural Darley Flying Start Program where he spent two years working on HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum’s Darley stud farms in Ireland, America, Australia, Dubai and the UK. After successfully completing the Program, he returned to work with John Warren.
Prior to establishing SackvilleDonald, Ed spent three successful years working alongside Alastair Donald at the Kern Lillingston Association. During this time he specialised in the purchase of yearlings, mares, foals and stallions which has now carried over into his role at SackvilleDonald. Ed’s yearling clients have included Group 1 winning trainers Tom Dascombe, Richard Hannon, Hugo Palmer, Ed Walker and the late Sir Henry Cecil. Whilst stallion deals have been completed on behalf of clients from the UK, Ireland, France, Greece and Morocco.
